CORAL GABLES, Fla. - A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged with premeditated murder, aggravated battery and discharging a firearm on school property after a domestic incident that happened Friday on the University of Miami campus.

UM police said the incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. Friday between a boyfriend and his partner at the School of Communication.

According to Coral Gables police, Yasmien Love acted with a premeditated design to kill his victim -- identified as Landess -- by showing up to his place of employment with a loaded firearm. The act would have resulted in the death of Landess, but Love failed to do so as a struggle ensued between the two.

Police said Love discharged the firearm over an occupied premise and intentionally struck Landess over his head with an unknown object against his will and caused bodily harm to the Landess.

Love admitted to traveling to the UM campus with a firearm and waited until Landess arrived at his office. Love also told police they struggled over the firearm and the firearm went off.

Love said that he wanted to kill himself in front of Landess because of their recent breakup. Police said a witness observed the two struggling over the firearm and intervened. Love attempted to flee the scene when the witness held the victim down until police arrived.

Police said Love was taken to the Miami-Dade County Jail.

Friday was the last day of final exams for Summer Session A.

According to the UM student rights and responsibilities handbook, guns are prohibited on campus.
