Man arrested after officer spots vehicle from burglary surveillance video

Another man seen in video remains at-large

MIAMI – Miami police arrested a 61-year-old man on burglary charges Monday after an officer recognized the suspect’s vehicle from an alert description.

The officer was patrolling the area of Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 67th Street at about 5:30 p.m. when his  2003 Honda Odyssey with side damage was spotted.

Gerardo Rios-Gonzalez was then pulled over by the officer who  noticed several items that were described as being stolen from an area restaurant in the 1000 block of Northeast 79th Street, according to police.

The victim came to the scene and was able to identify the items.

In total an excess of $25,000 worth of both equipment and damage was endured by the restaurant, police said.

After being read his rights the police report said that Rios-Gonzalez denied committing the burglary but did admit to going into the business to pick up items he’d purchased from an unknown man, and returned to the business several hours later.

A search of Rios-Gonzalez’s vehicle showed several flat head screw drivers, a pair of cloves and a crowbar, according to police.

The video footage from the incident also shows Rios-Gonzalez breaking into the business and removing several items, police said in their reporter.

Police went on to say that Rios-Gonzalez was wearing the "exact clothing" as in the video and that the footage shows the Honda getting side damage after squeezing between a wooden fence that secures the business.

Rios-Gonzalez was arrested on charges if burglary, possession of burglary tools, grand theft and criminal mischief.

One more person, described as a white man, about 40 years, standing at 5 feet 8 inches and weighing about 150 pounds, is also wanted in connection to this incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
