Man arrested after smashing 8-year-old in head with stone

Girl hospitalized in stable condition

MARGATE, Fla. – A 33-year-old Margate man was arrested over the weekend after hitting an 8-year-old girl’s head with a stone, police said.

Webens Veillard, 33, was visiting a family member Friday night on Southwest 11th Street when he began to choke a woman, police said. When the woman got away, Veillard began to chase her with a stone.

Veillard then threw the stone at a window to get inside a residence, picked up the stone and began chasing after the 8-year-old girl, police said.

When he caught up with the child, he began to strike her on the head with the stone and shouted, “I’m going to kill you,” according to police, and began to choke her.

Witnesses pulled Veillard off the girl, police said.

The girl was taken to Broward Health Medical Center to be treated for a skull fracture. She is listed in stable condition.

Veillard was arrested on charges of attempted murder, aggravated child abuse, battery, burglary with assault or battery and aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, according to the records.
