CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Police say they have charged a man with aggravated assault after he allegedly stole a vehicle, broke into other vehicles and resisted arrest.

On Friday, Coral Gables police received a call concerning a gray Volkswagen Passat, in which the license tag on the car had been reported stolen.

Officers located the car and began to conduct surveillance on the car. While doing so, police said they observed Alexander J. Castro exiting the car at several different homes.

Police said Castro was seen attempting to enter two other vehicles at two of the homes. As a result of his behavior, police said they initiated a traffic stop, at which time, Castro rammed an unmarked Coral Gables police vehicle.

Castro continued to resist arrest, according to police, and was subsequently taken into custody. He was taken to the Coral Gables Police Department and then to the Dade County Jail.

Police said further investigation revealed that Castro had allegedly been involved in several other crimes in both Miami-Dade and Broward counties, which included the theft of the car he was driving.

Anyone who has seen similar incidents involving a similar vehicle to a gray Volkswagen Passat is asked to contact the Coral Gables Police Department at 305-442-1600.
