AVENTURA, Fla. - A man fatally shot his girlfriend and then killed himself in what police are calling a murder-suicide early Tuesday morning in Aventura.

The shooting occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. at the Promenade at Aventura townhomes.

Aventura police said Jonathan Dejman, 39, and Stephanie Mizrachi, 24, of Boca Raton, had been dating for a couple of years, but they were in the process of breaking up.

Police said the couple had dinner with Mizrachi's family Monday night and came back to his townhome in Aventura.

At some point, Mizrachi called her sister and said Dejman wouldn't let her leave, police said.

Dejman shot her three times as she was sitting in her car and then shot himself in the parking lot, police said.

Jail records show the couple was arrested in a domestic-related incident last year.
