Man trapped inside West Miami home during fire

Cause of fire under investigation

WEST MIAMI, Fla. – A man was critically injured Friday morning in a fire at his West Miami home.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was called about 8 a.m. to the home in the 5700 block of Southwest 12th Street.

When firefighters arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames.

A neighbor and friend of Adeline and Julio Collazo said the fire was so intense that it felt like an oven.

"That's what it felt like 10 feet away," Demetrios Doumenis told Local 10 News.

Doumenis said the couple had been asleep inside when the fire broke out. He said Adeline Collazo escaped through a back door.

Her husband, however, was trapped inside the home. Firefighters pulled the unconscious man out. Julio Collazo was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he was on life support Friday afternoon.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
