CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Two people are recovering after they were attacked by a crocodile Sunday in Coral Gables.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the victims were identified as Alejandro Jimenez, 26, and Lisset Rendon, 23.
Police said the man and woman entered a canal near a friend's house in the 1300 block of Lugo Avenue about 2:30 a.m. when the crocodile bit the Jimenez's arm, shoulder and back. He was then able to free himself.
Jimenez was taken to South Miami Hospital and is listed in good condition. The extent of Rendon's injuries hasn't been released, but authorities said she was treated at the scene.
Police said the crocodile was 11 to 12 feet long. Police said officers will pass out flyers to residents nearby to warn them about the crocodile.
Traps have also been placed in the water to catch the large reptile, but so far it has not been caught.
The FWC is investigating.
