MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - A Miami Beach man who threatened on social media to kill President Donald Trump appeared Thursday in court, where he was ordered to complete a one year-mental health treatment program.
According to an arrest report, Dominic Puopolo, 51, posted a video on his Twitter page in which he said: "This is the 16th of January 2017. I will be at the review/inauguration and I will kill President Trump, President-elect Trump today."
The Miami Herald confirmed that Puopolo's mother, Sonia Morales Puopolo, was killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks when Mohamed Atta crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
Sonia Morales Puopolo's funeral was eulogized by Hillary Clinton.
Police said Puopolo was found the day after making the threat leaving a Subway restaurant on Washington Avenue.
He was taken to the Miami Beach Police Department, where he confessed to threatening the president, the report said.
Puopolo was arrested on a charge of threatening to harm a public servant.
During his first court appearance, Puopolo's defense attorney told the judge that his client is mentally ill and also goes by the name Jesus Christ.
