Miami-Dade official used employees for son's wedding

Mallika Muthiah reprimanded by Ethics and Public Trust

MIAMI – A Miami-Dade County official has been reprimanded for using her employees to assist in her son's wedding.

Mallika Muthiah, the county's Chief of Air Quality Management, pled no contest to the charge that she had exploited her position by asking employees in her unit to work on projects for the wedding.

The employees worked on the Muthiah's wedding project during and after normal work hours.

Two employees were tasked to assist with the wedding invitations, while a third was asked to copy a CD for Muthiah on his home equipment.

The Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust issued the reprimand saying, that imposing personal tasks on government employees "wastes public resources, diminishes the public's faith in government and violates the public trust."
