Miami woman accused of lying about abduction to be released from jail

Police say Karla Vasquez, 32, spent night with man she met at bar

MIAMI – A Miami woman accused of lying about being abducted by two men Thursday appeared in court Friday, when a judge released her on her own recognizance.

Miami police said Karla Vasquez, 32, called her husband while he was working his overnight shift early Thursday and told him that she was with two men and was in trouble.

Vasquez’s husband told detectives that he initially thought that his wife was joking when she called to say that she was in trouble, but then hurried home when he received a text message from her about the men.

When her husband got to their home at 1742 NW 42nd St., he saw that Vasquez and her black 2008 Chevrolet Suburban were gone, so he called police.

Detectives were able to ping Vasquez's phone in Miami-Dade County. Police found Vasquez getting into her SUV outside a home and stopped her in the area of Northeast 15th Avenue and Northeast 57th Street.

Police contacted the man with whom she was staying and was told that the two had met at Styx Bar at 15346 W. Dixie Highway.

He said the pair drank together all night night and took photos of themselves together, smiling and having a good time.

Detectives said Vasquez told them a similar story, saying that she never went home after hanging out at the bar and decided on her own to spend the night with the man.

Vasquez was arrested on a charge of providing a false report of commission of a crime.
