Miami-Dade County has lowest voter turnout in Florida

Just over 40 percent of registered voters submitted ballots in Miami-Dade County

Dozens of support teams will be on hand Tuesday for any technical difficulties while voting.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The percentage of Miami-Dade County voters who turned out to the polls for Tuesday's midterm election was the lowest of any county in the state.

Statistics from the Florida Division of Elections show just 40.67 percent, 528,956 of 1,300,465 active registered voters in Miami-Dade, cast a ballot this year. The county with the second lowest turnout was Santa Rosa, where 43.15 percent of the 124,433 registered voters voted. The statistics do not include provisional ballots or absentee ballots submitted from overseas.

Broward County also had a low turnout, with just 43.51 percent of the 1,067,083 voters coming out to the polls. The statistics in Broward County did not include any absentee ballots submitted.

Monroe County was the only South Florida county that topped more than 50 percent, with 56.58 percent turnout. Palm Beach County reported 49.11 percent of its registered voters submitted ballots. 

The county with the highest turnout in the state was Sumter County where 67.3 percent,  55,668 of the county's 82,603 voters cast a ballot during the election period.
