Surveillance video shows shot owner being pushed, punched during robbery

MIRAMAR, Fla. - A Miramar shop owner who was attacked by armed robbers took matters into his own hands, shooting one of his attackers.

"I fought with them for a while," 65-year old victim Sam Morrison told Local 10's Ross Palombo.

The incident took place at Sam's West Indian Store along University Drive. All of it was caught on video surveillance video.

"As soon as I walked to the front, they came behind me and took me from behind," Morrison said.

The video shows Morrison being slapped, pushed and punched. At one point, one of the attackers even pistol-whipped Morrison.

"I was armed, but I didn't want them to know. I was calm, so they didn't find that out," said Morrison.

The video shows one of the attackers jumping into the air and tumbling over a counter after Morrison shot him.

"I took a couple of shots at them, but they ran," Morrison said.

As people were running in to help, the two robbers were running out. In the confusion, they got away.

In the video, Morrison is seen left alone, holding his gun. He was beaten and shaken, but is OK.
