MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. - The mother of a 5-year-old New Jersey boy who was killed 23 years ago was arrested late Wednesday afternoon in Florida, according to the Martin County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Michelle Lodzinski, 47, was arrested before 6 p.m. on a warrant out of Middlesex County, New Jersey, charging her with the 1991 death of her 5-year old son, Timothy Wiltsey.

Timothy disappeared from a carnival at Kennedy Park in New Jersey in May 1991. According to the Sheriff's Office, Lodzinksi claimed he disappeared when she left him in line at a carnival ride while she went to get a soda.

The boy's partial remains were found in a field several months later. The case was ruled a homicide, deputies said.

"Following a routine, cold case review of the evidence and facts surrounding the disappearance and murder of Timothy Wiltsey, a new investigation was conducted and the matter was presented to the grand jury," prosecutor Andrew Carey said.

Authorities said a grand jury charged Lodzinski "did purposely or knowingly kill Timothy Wiltsey, or did purposely or knowingly inflict serious bodily injury upon Timothy Wiltsey, resulting in his death."

A warrant for Lodzinski was then issued. Lodzinski, who lives in Port St. Lucie and works in Martin County, was arrested Wednesday. According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, she is being held at the Martin County Jail and will likely be extradited back to New Jersey, where her bond is set at $2 million.
