More than $30,000 in electronics stolen from Miami Gardens business

4 men caught on camera burglarizing store

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Surveillance cameras were rolling as thieves made off with more than $30,000 worth of smartphones and tablets from a Miami Gardens business in 30 seconds flat.

Despite the glass door, a metal gate, a loud alarm and cabinet locks, the four young men caught on camera pulled off the heist with little trouble.

Gilberto Maakaroun said he didn't think the theft would be as devastating to his business, Unlocking Wireless, when the alarm company first notified him early Thursday morning.

When Maakaroun arrived on the scene off Northwest Second Avenue, he said he realized his family was out thousands of dollars.

"They smashed and grabbed anything they could, pretty much," he said. "In about 30 seconds they were in and they were out."

To add insult to injury, Maakaroun said the boys were caught on camera trying to sell the stolen phones hours later at a wireless shop two blocks away and then a pawn shop.

Maakaroun said the family had no insurance on the phones but that he won't let it stop him from growing his business.

"It's very frustrating because we're a small business," said Maakaroun. "We're trying to grow the business, grow the company."

This is at least the fourth cellphone store in the recent months hit in similar fashion in South Florida.

Maakaroun said he hopes someone will recognize any of the suspects who really put a dent in the family business.

Anyone with any information on the robbery is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
