Muslim students receive death threats after report in Jewish Journal

Headline Goes Here

The Florida Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations filed a report today with the FBI on behalf of Muslim students at Florida Atlantic University that received death threats following a false report from the Jewish Journal in South Florida.

On April 5th, 2012 the Jewish Journal of South Florida published an article "FAU Students Receive Fake Eviction Notices". The article was in response to a student group's non-violent protest of the illegal demolition of Palestinian homes by the state of Israel. The Students For Justice in Palestine (SJP) posted 200 fake eviction notices to raise awareness of the issue.

In the article the Jewish Journal falsely accuses the students of SJP of placing the fake eviction notices, "… on the dorm room doors of more than 200 Jewish Students". This caused international coverage of the event because the Jewish Journal created an illusion that the students of SJP were targeting the Jewish students on campus. The fake eviction notices were placed randomly on dorm room doors and the Jewish students were not targeted in anyway.

The irresponsible reporting of the Jewish Journal of South Florida has endangered the lives of students and created a hostile environment on campus. Moving forward we will be monitoring the activities of the anti-Palestinian, anti-Arab and anti-Muslim groups on campus. We will work with the authorities to ensure the safety of all students.
