Police: 2 dead after their vehicle was hit from behind; DJ AOL suffers serious injuries

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A North Miami DJ was injured in a crash early Sunday that, police say, killed two others after their car was hit from behind.

The crash happened after 1 a.m. at the intersection of Southwest 8th Street and Douglas Road in Coral Gables.

According to Coral Gables police, two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Southwest 8th Street when the first vehicle slowed down or stopped for the traffic light at Douglas Road, and the other hit it from behind.

Maria Martinez, 44, and Marlon Gutierrez, 34, both from Sweetwater, were in the vehicle that was hit and were killed, according to police.

The driver of the second vehicle, 26-year-old Ervens Prudent of North Miami, known as DJ AOL, suffered serious injuries, according to police, and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

According to Prudent's mother, he suffered a broken leg and some facial injuries. She said her son was leaving from a friend's wedding in Coral Gables.

Prudent's mother believes that her son may have fallen asleep while driving because he was at a funeral earlier in the day Saturday.

Police said no other passengers were in either vehicle.
