HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - The owner of two pit bulls who attacked and killed a family's Shih Tzu in Hallandale Beach has been fined.

Broward Animal Care and Control said the owner of the pit bulls was fined $1,025 in total -- $512.50 for each dog -- and is scheduled to appear in court on October 26.

Broward Animal Care and Control is recommending the dogs be muzzled outside.

The Melendez family said their neighbor's two pit bulls attacked their dog, Buster, on Tuesday. The dogs were kept in cages outside the owner's Hallandale Beach home but the yard is not fenced in.
