Pedestrian fatally struck by car in Lauderdale Lakes

Moises Figueroa, 22, struck by 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL450, deputies say

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – A 22-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck Sunday morning as he walked near North State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes, deputies said.

Moises Figueroa was struck at about 5:15 a.m. by a 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL450 as he walked southbound in the northbound lanes near the 4800 block of North State Road 7, Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said.

Carter said Robert Hill, 47, was driving northbound in the center through lane when his car hit Figueroa as he walked in the northbound lanes of State Road 7, between the far right lane and center lane. Hill’s passenger-side front bumper struck Figueroa and projected him forward. He came to final rest near the center and right through lanes.

Carter said Hill fled immediately after the crash and drove north to Commercial Boulevard where he turned westbound. After first responders arrived at the accident scene, Hill returned and identified himself as the driver of the Mercedes.

Figueroa was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic homicide detectives are investigating.
