Pedestrian fatally struck by Tri-Rail train in Fort Lauderdale

207 passengers aboard train, Tri-Rail spokesman says

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Tri-Rail train fatally struck a pedestrian Monday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale, Tri-Rail spokesman Victor Garcia said.

The crash was reported in the area of Northwest 21st Avenue and 19th Street.

Sky 10 was above the scene just after 5 p.m. and saw a mangled pink bicycle on the tracks a short distance from the body. 

Garcia said 207 passengers were aboard the train at the time.

A Tri-Rail bus bridge has been set up between the Cypress Creek and Fort Lauderdale stations for passengers who were waiting for the train.

The Broward Sheriff's Office was at the scene investigating.

As of 7 p.m., the tracks were cleared.

No other details were immediately released.
