MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Two men were arrested Wednesday after a carjacking and two attempted robberies.

Miami Beach police said it started earlier this week when the suspects carjacked a man in Miami-Dade County, stealing his red Kia.

Police said they used the stolen car to try to commit two armed robberies.

"The first one occurred at the 1000 block of Alton Road," Sgt. Bobby Hernandez said.

Police said the gunmen demanded money from two potential victims who got scared and ran into a nearby Walgreens for help.

The suspects tried again, this time just four blocks away in the 1400 block of Lenox Avenue, police said.

"He also resisted and ran off and started screaming, and they got scared and took off," Hernandez said.

Miami Beach police spotted the Kia heading west on the Julia Tuttle Causeway, so they alerted Miami police and Miami-Dade police. Miami police tried to stop the car near Biscayne Boulevard and 50th Street without success, leading to a brief chase.

The passenger, identified as Brandon Jenkins, bailed out at 79th Street and Ninth Avenue, but he was quickly apprehended.

Police said the car continued to Northwest 50th Street and 15 th Court, where it car crashed into a chain-link fence. The driver, identified as Malcolm Burnett, was arrested.

Hernandez credited the victims of the attempted robberies as helping police nab the suspects.

"They gave us the description of the vehicle, direction of travel, subject description," he said. "It was imperative to helping us crack this case."
