MIAMI - Miami police are searching for a gunman who broke into a home early Friday, tied up and blindfolded a man, then fondled a 14-year-old girl before escaping with two cellphones.

A 42-year-old man awoke about 3:30 a.m. when a masked stranger with a revolver shook him after sneaking into his home near Northwest 44th Avenue and 11th Street, police said.

"They came in through the window. Apparently, it was left open," the man told Local 10.

The intruder, who spoke Spanish, told the man to lay face-down on the bed, used a cellphone charger cord to tie him up and tied a sock around his head to cover his eyes, Miami police said.

The robber ransacked the room, then tied the man's feet with a neck tie, police said. According to the incident report, the robber went into another bedroom, where a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were sleeping.

The girl told police she saw the gunman come into the room, and he told her to cover her face with a pillow, police said. According to the report, the man tied up the boy with a cellphone charger cord, and the girl started screaming.

The robber pointed the gun at the girl, telling her to be quiet, and then began fondling her, police said.

The man in the other room freed himself and started making noise, and the robber ran out of the home with the children's cellphones, Miami police said. The man left behind a duffle bag full of items from the man's room, and the man found his cellphone and a house phone in a pot full of water in the kitchen sink, according to the report.

"I don't want to think about that because I have two kids. That would be a terrible situation," said neighbor Wilmer Fernandez.

Another neighbor, Rolando Valdes, agreed.

"I'm worried because I have two kids. I work in a restaurant at night, and my wife stays alone with the kids," Valdes said.

Valdes said he was so concerned he had his locks changed the minute police told him what had happened to his next-door neighbors.

The attacker is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and 170 pounds and possibly Cuban. He wore a gray shirt, Miami police said.

"I just want police to get the guy and put him in jail for the rest of his life," Fernandez said.

Anyone who knows anything about the incident is asked to call Miami police.
