Police officers arrest burglary suspects, find grow house

21 marijuana plants worth $50K seized

KENDALL, Fla. Miami-Dade County police officers responding to a burglary call found a grow house with $50,000 worth of marijuana inside.

Officers were called to 7004 SW 136th Court in Kendall late Thursday after neighbors reported seeing burglary suspects. Investigators found the burglary suspects broke a glass sliding door, then ransacked the home once inside.

"Last night, I heard the helicopter. I got a phone call from a friend telling me there's cops on my block," said Roberto Cuesta.

"I couldn't go outside. They said we're looking for people with guns, stay inside the house," added Fernando Medina. "They even asked me to open the gate so they could go in the back yard with the dogs."

Police arrested 37-year-old Pedro Cabrera Gonzalez (pictured below left) and 36-year-old Javier Chill Lovio (pictured below right). Both men were charged with burglary and criminal mischief.

"Normally, this is a quiet neighborhood. I didn't expect this," said Medina.

On Friday morning, crime scene investigators arrived, as well as crews with Florida Power & Light and Miami-Dade County Animal Services. Police seized 21 marijuana plants.

"I had no idea that was happening here," added Medina. "For me, it was really hard to believe."

The owner of the home was in New Jersey at the time of the incident, police said.

Neighbors said the people who live at the home rent it.
