PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Police are warning Pembroke Pines residents of a scam operated by a man attempting to take advantage of the city's recent water issues.
The Pembroke Pines Police Department posted an alert on Facebook about an unknown male knocking on doors, claiming to be a city representative who offers to sell residents a water cleaning system.

The fake representative says the systems are needed after a series of Local 10 reports showed Pembroke Pines drinking water had levels of contaminants that were higher than acceptable, according to the Florida Department of Health.
Police say the man selling the water systems is not affiliated with the city and any sales are a "scam."
"Water quality inspections performed by or on behalf of the City do not involve any type of filter, or any type of sales pitch," the departments Facebook post states. "When an inspector performs the water quality inspections they are at the request of the resident, and he/she does not enter the dwelling."
After the Local 10 reports, the city announced that it was replacing parts of the water system.
Police are urging Pembroke Pines residents who have had contact with the man to contact the department's non-emergency line at 954-764-4357.
