Biden visits Carter, attends drive-in rally to promote plans in Georgia

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden traveled to Georgia on Thursday to attend a car drive-in rally outside of the Infinite Energy Arena in Duluth.

Biden said Americans owe a “special thanks” to the voters in Georgia who sent Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, a former journalist, to the Senate. Warnock, 51, and Ossoff, 34, helped to pass the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.

“Because of you, the rest of America was able to get help,” Biden said. “If you ever wonder if elections make a difference, just remember what you did here.”

Biden marked his 100th day in office and promoted his $2 trillion American Jobs Plan and the $1.8 trillion American Families Plan. Both plans include an increase in taxes on wealthy Americans.

Before the rally, Biden also met with former President Jimmy Carter, 96, in Plains. After the rally, Biden returned to the Dobbins Air Reserve Base on Thursday night.

White House adviser Cedric Richmond said Biden will be working to deliver to Americans.

Rep. Ted Deutch tweeted Biden’s families plan creates new opportunities for students by creating universal pre-school, providing two free years of college, and improving teacher training. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar pushed back on Biden’s proposals.

“We are going in the wrong, bad direction,” Salazar said.
