BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — Broward County voters are heading to the polls for Florida’s 2026 primary election, with a crowded ballot featuring races for Congress, statewide offices, the Florida Legislature, Broward County Commission, judgeships and the School Board.
Florida is a closed-primary state, meaning voters generally receive the primary ballot for the political party with which they are registered. All registered voters can participate in nonpartisan contests and any universal primary contests that appear on their ballot.
Congressional races
Several congressional races affecting Broward County have drawn crowded fields, including District 20, District 24, District 25 and District 22.
Statewide races
Broward voters will also help choose their parties’ nominees for several statewide offices, including governor and U.S. Senate.
Contested races for chief financial officer and agriculture commissioner also appear on the ballot.
Broward County and School Board races
At the county level, the District 6 County Commission Democratic primary includes Eugen Bold, Jeffery Jones, A.J. Ryan and Caryl Shuham.
Several nonpartisan Broward County School Board races will also be decided by voters, including for Districts 1, 4, 6, 7 and 8.
Judicial races include a three-way contest for 17th Judicial Circuit Judge, Group 52, between David Andrew Fry, Tamar Hamilton and Kathleen O’Brien “Katie” Hinkle. Debi Gheorge Alten and Veronica N. Walker are competing for County Court Judge, Group 11.
