MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine will not seek a third term.
Levine announced in a YouTube video Thursday that he will not seek another term in 2018.
"As an entrepreneur who likes to get things done, I also believe in the power of fresh ideas and fresh leadership," Levine said in the video. "To that end, this will be my last term as the mayor of Miami Beach."
Levine first entered politics when he was elected Miami Beach mayor in 2013. The Boston native moved to South Florida when he was 10 years old and has lived in Miami Beach since the late 1980s.
"Now, I look forward to exploring ways of how best to serve my community and my state," Levine said.
The mayor stopped short of announcing a run for governor in 2018, but the Democrat has been rumored to be a possible contender in an already crowded field of candidates.
