Rain and thunderstorms continue into Saturday for South Florida

Rain leaves family homeless after roof collapse in Lauderhill

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – The relentless rain caused a roof collapse at a townhouse Friday in Lauderhill. There were traffic delays in both Miami-Dade and Broward. And it will continue Saturday.

For the family in Lauderhill, the rain meant they endured water going through their roof, the ceiling on the second floor and poured over the first floor. The containers in the dining room couldn't prevent the flooding to spread to the living room.

Lauderhill Fire Rescue responded to the home near Royal Palm Elementary School. Firefighters said four adults and four children were homeless, but they were not injured and were staying with relatives.

There could be more damage this weekend. There is a chance for showers and some afternoon storms on Saturday. The chance of rain will drop on Sunday

Neighbors of the homeless family said they are not the only ones in the area with roof problems.

Nina Ross said her insurance company denied coverage due to past damage. She was among the neighbors who were also worried about water damage. They said they pay their home owners association fees on time, but the association isn't taking care of the problem.

The association didn't immediately answer Local 10 News inquiries.
