Search on for missing man in lake

Witness says man fell into water while riding on WaveRunner

MIAMI – A recovery effort is expected to continue Friday for the body of a man who vanished in a Northwest Miami-Dade County lake.

Rescue crews were called to the water along NW 50th Court on Thursday evening, after a man fell off his WaveRunner and never resurfaced.

Family members identified the missing man as Adam Quiles, 49 Friday morning. They say he is a father of three who works as a federal corrections officer.

According to witnesses, Quiles fell into the water after hitting a rough wave around 7 p.m. Thursday.

"He was just doing waves, circles, he just slipped off. He had a bad ankle so it might of gave way," witness David Baad told Local 10's Ben Kennedy. Quiles was not wearing a life jacket.

Baad and the man's son jumped into the water to search for him while others called 911.

"I was going under the water, I couldn't find him. I kept diving, I couldn't find him, I almost passed out myself," said Baad.

A helicopter flew overhead for hours as divers joined the search effort. Their search lasted well into the night, which became increasingly difficult when the sun came down.
