Some patients released, others recover at Broward Health after airport shooting

Gov. Rick Scott has visited with some victims

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A surveillance video from inside a baggage claim area at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport shows the moment when a gunman opened fire on travelers.

In that video, a man is seen walking with two small children – moments later he was among the six people injured in an attack that claimed the lives of five people, wounded six.

In addition, others were treated for various other injuries like panic attacks and chest pains.

Patients were taken to Broward Health where hospital CEO Mark Sprada said recently that he is proud of the hospital's staff and the performance of trauma surgeons.

"It was like an organized symphony. We didn't miss a hiccup and we accommodated all the shooting victims," he said.

Gov. Rick Scott has visited with some of the victims and their families.

"When you talk to people that have been impacted they're appreciative of the care they're getting," Scott said.

Two patients injured in the Fort Lauderdale – Hollywood International Airport incident were released from Broward Health Medical Center on Sunday, according to a release.

In addition, a total of five patients remained hospitalized, four of whom were injured by gunshots. Of those five patients, three patients were in good condition and two were in critical condition.
