HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - A good Samaritan rescued two puppies -- one with a cracked jaw -- after finding them loose in N.W. Miami-Dade County Tuesday morning.

Both dogs were covered in ticks and fleas.

When the puppies, named Jack and Jill, were examined, the veterinarian found that Jack's lower jaw was split right down the middle.

It's not known whether the injury was intentional, or an accident.

"It bothers me if there's people out there that, if the dog did get injured, at least have a heart and take the dog to the vet," said Jessie Hernandez of 1 Lucky Dog Rescue.

Just 10 days ago, Local 10 brought you the story of Debbie, a pit bull puppy whose right front paw had been severed. She was also found in N.W. Miami-Dade County.

The good news in both cases is that Jack and Jill and Debbie are all being nursed back to health.

Jack and Jill should be released from the veterinary hospital in about two weeks. Debbie is scheduled to get a prosthetic paw on Friday.

The investigation continues into whether these animals were victims of animal cruelty, or they were accidentally injured.

Once the puppies are ready for adoption, they will be turned back to 1 Lucky Dog Rescue.
