Video of grow house shooting released, suspect back in court

Video played during suspect's hearing

MIAMI - Surveillance video of a shootout that left a Miami-Dade detective seriously injured outside a suspected grow house last July was released Thursday.

The extremely graphic video clearly shows one of the suspects getting out of a car and start shooting at officers and FBI agents who had responded to a tip that residents at the house were operating a marijuana grow house.

During the shootout, Det. John Saavedra was shot several times.

Officers returned fire and killed the suspect, identified as Gerardo Delgado.

Police said that 80 pounds of marijuana, worth about $90,000, were found inside the grow house.

The surveillance video released Thursday was played in court during an extended bail hearing for Luis Lazaro Estevanell, who was also arrested that day.

Estevanell will be back in court Friday.
