FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Water Taxi of Fort Lauderdale is running a special this weekend to get locals out and about after dealing with the wrath of Hurricane Irma.

The full Water Taxi fleet and its 22 stops don't fully reopen until Monday, but two boats will be in operation this weekend.

"Our community needs a break," said Phillip Burroughs, Water Taxi sales and marketing director in a statement. "Many of us still don't have power and are stuck at home with cabin fever, so we're doing our part to get locals out to enjoy the beautiful ride to the beach and to support the restaurants, shops and bars, which for the most part are all open."

The weekend stops are:

  • Las Olas, between Cheesecake Factory and Stranahan House. There will also be free parking this weekend at the Riverside Hotel lot.
  • Fort Lauderdale Beach at Beach Place and Cortez Street on Intracoastal.

Two boats will run all day and will be at the stops every 30 minutes. The $5 tickets allow passengers to ride back and forth as many times as they want.

Passengers will also be able to enjoy $5 beers and other beverages while out on the boats.
