Elderly man pushes police suspect off roof, ending standoff

'That sucker's coming off'

An 83-year-old California man helped police end an hours-long standoff when he pushed the suspect off of his roof.

KGO-TV says the suspect continually refused commands from officers to come down, prompting Wilford Burgess to use his neighbor's ladder to get on top of the house.

"I said...'I'm going up on the roof, that sucker's coming off,'" Burgess said.

Police Captain Tim Murakami issued this statement via Twitter, "Stand off w/man jumping on roof tops ended by 83 yr old man who got tired of his games and pushed him off The grandpa did what we couldn't."

Burgess' granddaughter, Ashely Wrenn, recorded the incident on video and said she was thankful her grandfather was protecting his family.
