Lawmaker says Sundays are for wives to make breakfast in bed for husbands

FARGO, N.D. – Someone needs to alert certain North Dakota lawmakers that we've entered the 21st Century.

Better yet, let them know it's no longer 1955.

The state's House of Representatives is having trouble erasing a law that would allow businesses to open on Sunday because one member believes the day would be better spent having wives making breakfast in bed for their husbands.

Valley News Live reports Representative Bernie Satrom is the one stuck in a different era.

"Spending time with your wife, your husband. Making him breakfast, bringing it to him in bed and then after that go take your kids for a walk,” said Satrom.

North Dakota's Blue Laws virtually prohibit any store or business from opening on Sunday.

Another lawmaker claims it's dangerous to do business on Sunday because it's another day for women to spend money.

"I don't know about you but my wife has no problem spending everything I earn in 6 and a half days. And I don't think it hurts at all to have a half day off," says Representative Vernon Laning.

Both men say their remarks were made in jest, but no one found them funny.
