A Lauderhill Fire Rescue representative said the man's arm was stuck in an awkward angle so additional rescue crews were called to try to get his arm out.
Fire Rescue officials were able to remove the employee's arm from the safe at about 4:45 p.m.
"During the time that we were trying to get him out, he was in excruciating pain," Div. Chief Jeff Levy said. "We had to give him medication. The doctors from the emergency room gave us orders to give him some medication to try to dull the pain, but it didn't help. He was in a lot of pain."
Employees at the store said the safe has been having issues lately, and they've had to mess with it to get money drops inside.
The employee was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
