Pregnant woman runs over suspected thief in parking lot

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A pregnant woman chased down and hit a man in her SUV after she claims he tried to steal her purse.

WLOS in Asheville, N.C. reports the incident occurred in a Walmart parking lot where the woman and a friend saw the man rummaging through her SUV.

"When I walked out of Walmart, he had her purse and was pulling all of her stuff out," Blake Bennett told WLOS. "Then me and my friend told him to put it down and 'What are you doing?'"

Bennett initially chased the man, identified as Robert Raines, when he fled with her purse, but then jumped in the vehicle to finish the pursuit.

"He was with my purse and he took off and I took off after him," Braswell told the station. "Me being five months pregnant, I chased a little ways then come back, jumped in the car, threw it in gear and come across the curb and ran him over. I was not going to let him get away with it. It's not right, it's not fair."

Raines suffered minor injuries and was charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny and misdemeanor damage to property.

Braswell is in some hot water herself as she has been charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
