Woman apprehended after pursuit on I-95

Carol Williams accused of striking deputy with car

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. ā€“ A woman was arrested Thursday after a brief chase along southbound Interstate 95 in Broward County.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dani Moschella said Carol Williams struck a detective with her car while he was acting on a tip about a possible drug deal outside a Broward Boulevard convenience store.

Moschella said the detective was speaking with Williams when she put the car in reverse and stepped on the gas pedal, striking him with the open door. He was briefly caught in the door as the car backed up, but he was able to free himself before the car sped off.

Deputies pursued the gray Lexus onto I-95 and stopped it near the Sheridan Street exit in Hollywood.

Moschella said deputies found crack cocaine inside the car.

Williams likely faces charges that include cocaine possession and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Her 14-year-old daughter was also in the car, but deputies haven't said if she faces charges.

Moschella said Williams has a lengthy history of arrests.
