MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A woman was hospitalized Tuesday under Florida's Baker Act after she trespassed at a Miami Gardens elementary school, Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez-Diego said.
The incident was reported at Brentwood Elementary School at 3101 NW 191st St.
Gonzalez-Diego said the school was not placed on lockdown because the woman was apprehended quickly by authorities.
The woman was not a parent and has no affiliation with the school, Gonzalez-Diego said.
"There was police that was chasing this lady down, and while I was in school my teacher told me to put my head down," first-grader Isaiah Cavero said.
It's unclear why the woman was on school property.
Parents who spoke to Local 10 News reporter Christian De La Rosa said they were upset because they were not aware of the incident until they saw the news crew outside the school.
"Well, something definitely needs to be changed," one mother, Adele Flowers, said.
It's unclear whether the woman who was hospitalized will face charges.
