Woman takes in 6 Cubans living outside Walmart

Cuban migrants had been sleeping outside Doral store since Thanksgiving

DORAL, Fla. – After spending several days outside a local Walmart, a group of Cubans are sleeping indoors Monday thanks to a woman who heard about their situation and took them in.

Cuddled on the concrete, their belongings in shopping carts, a group of Cuban migrants who recently made it to Miami were living and sleeping outside a Walmart in Doral.

Lisandre has been outside the Walmart since Thanksgiving. His journey began with a flight from Cuba to Ecuador. Until days ago, Cubans didn't need a visa to travel there, but now that's changed.

They're trying to find a shelter, but they've had no luck at churches and hotels were too expensive. So a 3-foot wide strip of sidewalk became home. But Monday night, a stranger who got word of their situation took all six of them in.

Walmart hasn't replied yet to calls from Local 10 News, but the Cubans said they were all very gracious and thankful because the employees were very nice and allowed them to use the restrooms. When they finally left, their last goodbyes were to those employees.
