MIAMI — President Donald Trump recently talked to Fox News about his intervention in Cuba and Venezuela.

Trump said Venezuela had “a lot of” oil, gold, rubies, and was much bigger than Cuba, which had relied on Venezuela’s wealth.

“A lot of things are going to happen in Cuba over the next maybe two months, but I don’t see it being like Venezuela,” Trump told Fox News Correspondent Trey Yingst on July 14.

Trump didn’t disregard the possibility of a military intervention in Cuba.

“We could do that with Cuba,” Trump said. “It would not be hard for us to do.”

Trump cut Venezuela’s oil shipments to Cuba after U.S. forces captured Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on Jan. 3 in Caracas.

Trump also threatened to impose tariffs on any country that sells or provides oil to the Communist island, where an energy crisis has resulted in power outages.
