MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Miami-Dade County-based nonprofit Global Empowerment Mission moved to help the victims of the 7.4-magnitude earthquake in Colombia.

Michael Capponi, GEM’s founder and president, said cash donations were more cost-efficient and allowed his team to buy food in Colombia.

GEM volunteers welcomed new camping gear, non-expired hygiene supplies, and first-aid kits from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1850 NW 84 Ave., in Doral.
