HAVANA, Cuba. — Former Cuban President Raul Castro remains hospitalized but is stable, sources told Local 10 News Cuba Analyst Dr. Andy Gomez on Thursday.
According to sources, retired General Abelardo Colome Ibarra, known as “ El Fury,” is currently in worse condition.
Colome Ibarra was head of the Ministry of the Interior and highly respected by the Castro brothers and the Cuban military.
Cuban officials have remained silent after the Diario Las Américas, a Miami-based newspaper in Spanish, reported on Tuesday that Castro, 95, who formally retired in April 2021, had suffered a stroke and was on life support.
Castro’s last public appearance was on June 6 at a ceremony to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of Cuba’s Ministry of the Interior. He did not attend the official annual event to commemorate the historic assault of July 26, 1953.
