Trayvon Martin's family before opening statements

Monday morning press conference was short and emotional

SANFORD, Fla. - Trayvon Martin's family met with reporters in the Seminole County Criminal Justice Building in Sanford, Fla. Monday morning.

Their statement lasted about five minutes. Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, said she has been sitting near her son's killer, George Zimmerman, since June 10, because she wants to make sure there is justice for her son.

"I ask that you pray for me and my family," she said.

Martin's father wore a light blue suit.

"As the court proceedings continue, we as a family look and cherish the memories that Trayvon left us with," he said.

Family attorney Bejamin Crump reminded reporters that after the autopsy investigators did not find George Zimmerman's DNA under Trayvon's nails.

"There are two important facts," Crump said. "Zimmerman was a grown man with a gun" and "Trayvon was a minor with no blood on his hands."
