Bird bandit caught on camera taking 2 cockatiels from Miami home

Owner kept birds in cage outside his home

MIAMI – A pair of cockatiels were stolen from the front porch of a Miami home Sunday, and now the birds' owners, as well as police, are asking for the public's help in catching the thief.

Surveillance video shows a man walking up to the home in the 1800 block of Southwest Ninth Street sometime around 5 a.m. and picking up the bird cage, before walking away.

The bird's owner said he's had the birds for about three years. He usually lets them play in his front yard and carries them around on his shoulders.

Miami police are searching for a slender built man, between 40 and 50 years old who was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, dark blue sweatshirt that was thrown over his shoulders, khaki shorts and a red or orange baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
