BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — A 70-pound mixed-breed dog named Massimo is still searching for a forever home after spending nearly five months at Broward County Animal Care.
Amanda Butler, an outreach coordinator with Broward County Animal Care, introduced Massimo during Local 10’s Adopt a Pet segment Thursday, describing him as an affectionate dog with a playful side.
Massimo arrived at the shelter as a stray and was never reclaimed.
Butler said he was initially scared and timid but has since become more relaxed and social.
Massimo enjoys playing with tennis balls, receiving attention and spending time lounging around, according to the shelter.
Broward County Animal Care said adoption fees are currently waived for pets at the shelter. Adopters are only required to pay a $25 pet registration fee. Dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before going home.
The shelter is also encouraging residents to attend a regional pet adoption event scheduled for June 20 at TY Park, located at 3300 N. Park Road in Hollywood.
Organizers say the Petco Love Mega Adoption Event will include adoptable pets from Broward County Animal Care, Miami-Dade Animal Services, the Humane Society of Broward County and Humane Society of Greater Miami. Adoption fees will be waived for participating pets.
