FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – There was a lot of barking and tail-wagging aboard Flight K-9 Thursday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The special flight was just for shelter dogs, heading up north, hoping to find loving homes.
The flight also made room for other animals at the shelter that were left homeless after Hurricane Irma.
The dogs were sent to Buffalo, New York, on a Southwest Airlines plane, where they will then cross the border into Canada. The move will help Miami-Dade Animal Services make room for more pets.
The shelter normally receives 250 dogs a week. But after Hurricane Irma, it reached that number in just two days.
