South Florida dog becomes internet sensation with watermelon-eating video

Rolex's owners use popularity to help local animal rescue groups

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A South Florida dog with a love for watermelon has become an internet sensation after his owners posted a video of him chowing down on his favorite fruit.

"Once we put him in the watermelon, he literally just plopped down and just started chewing away, so it was kind of like a love at first sight type thing," Rolex's owner, Natalie Shalom said.

Chase and Natalie Shalom are a little obsessed with their brand new baby boy, so they spend their spare time snapping pics and sharing videos of their French bulldog named Rolex to share with the world.

"In the goal of trying to have like a cute picture, and in reality we found out something he has a true passion for, which is watermelons," Chase Shalom said.

"There's nothing more this dog loves more than watermelons and love and kisses. Those are the three things of his life," Natalie Shalom said.

All it took was one video to tap into 80 million views worth of other watermelon lovers around the globe, and the Shalom family is using their puppy's popularity to help out animal rescue groups in South Florida.

"It's great that he's going to make a difference and he's just a dog! It proves that it doesn't matter your age, it doesn't matter your gender, it doesn't matter your species, you can do something to change the world and that's our goal," Shalom said.

If you would like to meet Rolex and nosh on some summery fruit, the Watermelon Bash will be held at Happy Tails Dog Park at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The $5 entry fee will benefit Paws 4 You Rescue.
