Canes on cusp of AP Top 25 following opening win

Miami to host 12th ranked Gators on Saturday

NEW YORK – If beating Florida Atlantic wasn't enough to vault the Miami Hurricanes into the AP Top 25, beating the Gators on Saturday should do the trick.

Despite Miami's 34-6 season-opening victory over the Owls on Friday, the Associated Press still has the Hurricanes looking in from the outside.

Miami received 127 votes, just 8 votes behind 25th ranked USC.

The 'Canes face the 12th ranked Florida Gators on Saturday afternoon at Sun Life Stadium and a win in that game will most certainly put Miami in the Top 25.

Florida fell 2 spots to 12th after their lackluster 24-6 win over Toledo, while Florida State jumped up a spot to 10th after an impressive showing Monday night at Pittsburgh.

Alabama remains the number one team in the country followed by Oregon, Ohio State, Clemson and Stanford.
