Ross gives Philbin one-year extension

Coach will not enter season as lame duck

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin promises to be more vigilant after the firings of offensive line coach Jim Turner and trainer Kevin O'Neill.

MIAMI – Joe Philbin will enter the 2015 season with a contract extension.

Owner Stephen Ross confirmed a one-year extension to reporters at the owners' meetings in Arizona.

The four-year contract Philbin signed in 2012 was set to expire at the end of the season.

Ross did not want his head coach to enter the season as a lame duck.

There was speculation that Philbin could be fired near the end of the 2014 season, but Ross gave his head coach a vote of confidence.
