Saban blames Dolphins departure on Brees decision

Alabama coach reflects on time in Miami

MIAMI – Nick Saban told ESPN that if the Dolphins had taken Drew Brees, he might still be coaching in Miami.

The man who famously said "I'm not gonna be the Alabama coach" reflected on his time in Miami.

Saban said that in 2006 he wanted to sign quarterback Drew Brees, but the deal was stopped by Dolphins team doctors.

Brees was coming off of a serious shoulder injury.

The Dolphins picked Daunte Culpepper instead.

Saban has gone on to win national championships at Alabama, Brees won a Super Bowl in New Orleans and the Dolphins haven't made the playoffs since 2008.
